“When My Amy Smiles”
This up-tempo, solid Country song utilizes an opening wedding scene of Father and Bride to capture the moment of love, affection and admiration he has for his daughter. The song then takes him back to important moments in their lives together where her simple gift of a smile was all the thanks he needed to sense a job well done. It’s a real feel-good song with a bouncy tune and meaningful lyrics of human interactions and strong emotions that everyone can relate to. It also lends itself to a slower tempo, more sentimental, more reflective song for perhaps an older male singer. It also lends itself to a powerful visual video to convey the importance of parental bonding, love and support through the years, and how a simple gesture can mean so much.

“No Sense at All”
A daring and thought-provoking song that captures how, from time to time, everyone feels frustrated and powerless due to personal difficulties, health issues, relational problems, the death of a loved one, or national/international issues like wars, calamities, crime, and theft. The natural reaction is usually to blame God: “How can You allow this to happen to me…or us…or them?” Who’s in control here? Are there forces I can’t see, or is it just me and fate? The question is answered positively, emphasizing that God is in control. If you embrace your faith, you can still see a sun that shines brightly behind even the darkest passing clouds; and that someday, either here or in the next life, you will find your questions answered. We all need to hold onto hope that everything we’re going through will eventually make sense. We may not like it, but it will make sense.

“Daddy Ran Away From Home Today”
This is a pure Bluegrass number currently under development that illustrates the heartbreak a broken home can have on the entire family, especially the children who may struggle to fully understand the situation. This lesson is not lost on the artist, who tries to support the child’s grief while also going home to reassure his or her own children that they will never leave them. It serves as a reminder to be aware of the impacts of your decisions in life, particularly on the most vulnerable. The visual imagery and message lend themselves to a powerful video representation.

“A Toast to the New Year”
Back in 1995, my sister-in-law approached me after a New Year celebration, asking me to consider rewriting the old words to the yearly singing of "Auld Lang Syne." No one felt the traditional English song captured the desired freshness for welcoming in the new year in America. So, the enclosed updated lyrical version was created. With the fast-approaching 250th Anniversary of the founding of the USA, I believe the time is right—both intellectually and financially—to collaborate with a music producer to create a polished version for use by TV networks, government celebrations, and universal exposure across the country to breathe new life into the outdated Old English version.

“Thru the Eyes of a Child”
This song in its final form would be enhanced with an initial sound clip of children on a playground together to set the scene. While watching children playing in a playground together, the singer is struck by the fact that although they are all different by gender, race, or creed, they all seem to get along fine while enjoying each other’s company. It brings home the idea that we would all be better if we could similarly look from our neighbor to our world through the same innocent nature we started with as children. It lends itself to a moving video to convey the message of universal love and respect. Notice that the attached demo does not provide the third stanza for time’s sake. Your evaluation of the value of the song’s continuation is encouraged.

“Trail of Tears”
At the beginning of the 1830s, nearly 125,000 Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida—land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated for generations. By the end of the decade, very few natives remained anywhere in the southeastern U.S. Working on behalf of white settlers who wanted to grow cotton on the Indians’ land, the federal government forced them to leave their homelands and walk hundreds of miles to a specially designated “Indian Territory” across the Mississippi River. This difficult and oftentimes deadly journey is known as the Trail of Tears. This song is a chilling representation of the harrowing consequences of this forced march in our history and how it resonates in the conscience of Indigenous Peoples, such as the remaining members of the North Carolina Cherokee Nation. An endorsement and support for this song by the current Tribal leadership might also be sought to further its notice and appeal. A video recreating the hardships endured would provide powerful support to this moving and sad story. (*A much more extensive historical explanation by the History Channel is attached in the Misc. File.)
